In 2016 I found myself
finally accomplishing my dream and getting into the fishing industry. I finally
got my dream job, of taking people out on their own personal fishing guides.
Being a rookie in the beginning, I would find myself coming in at night with
unsuccessful hauls of fish. I thought to myself if this was really the
profession for me. Every time I had those thoughts, and every time I had an
unsuccessful day, I taught myself to grow from those mistakes, and never gave
up. Fast forward to the next season, I found myself being much more successful.
There was nothing better than seeing a guest with a grin wrapped from ear to ear
because of the fish they had in the boat. Guests seemed to enjoy fishing with
me. I started becoming the talk around the lodge. Not only for my guiding, but
for my customer service in general. If I were to give up my first year, when I
felt I just wasn’t as good as everybody else, I would have never gotten where I
am today, and I’m thankful for that. Since then, I have parted ways with that
outfitter.
My name is Spencer Smith, I currently reside in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. Growing up in a state
touching four of the five great lakes, I can confidently state that boating,
fishing, and water sports in general have been a big part of my life since
the very beginning.
Fishing and the outdoors has always been
my first love, and ever since its started, its never left. It all started
years ago, when my dad would take me fishing, and I wouldn’t be able to
sleep at night because of the excitement swarming inside of me. At that
time, fishing was just a gift that I would enjoy on occasions, but nothing I
really had any control over.
Fast
forward about eight years, and I would find myself sitting in my room staying up
until three in the morning, watching countless Youtube videos of people fishing.
This did two things to me. One, its taught me so much about the sport, and the
business that you could get into. Two, it gave me the motivation to get back out
there, and catch some fish, whether I knew what I was doing or not. As I pushed
myself harder and harder everyday to learn the sport of fishing, I found myself
catching more and more fish. More importantly, I found myself learning more and
more about the sport itself. When I found myself fishing six out of seven days
of the week, is when I knew I was hooked.
I am currently looking
for an opportunity to continue my expertise in fishing, while working with other
people in remote settings, and provide first class customer service to people,
to spread the love and excitement for the sport of fishing.
